Biography of Orlando Owoh


Stephen Owomoyela Olaore Oladipupo popularly known as Orlando Owoh was a Nigerian highlife singer. 

His early life 

Orlando Owoh was given birth to on a valentine day I.e 14th of February, 1932 to the family of Mr and Mrs Owomoyela. He was born in Osogbo of the old Oyo State, South Western part of Nigeria. 

Mr Owomoyela, his father was an indegene of Ifon town, Ose local government area of Ondo State. While his mother, Mrs Christiana hails from Owo town of Owo Local Government Area. 

Dr. Orlando Owoh during his early age learnt carpentry works before he later joined chief Kola Ogunmola’s theatre group in 1958 due to the humongous passion he has for singing, drumming and stage playing. Orlando played drums and was among the band members that sang when Queen Elizabeth of England visited Nigeria.

To further his pursuance for his singing mission, he left Ogunmola’s theatre group to form his own band named Omimah band in the year 1960. The band, was changed to young Kenneries and later African Kenneries international.

Orlando Owoh performed his highlife songs both within Nigeria and overseas which include; United Kingdom, United States, Ghana, South Africa and many others. He performed in South Africa for Miriam Makena and other South African dignitaries where he was honoured with a doctorate degree on October 1, 1972. Since then, he has been regarded as Dr Orlando Owoh. 

He died on November 4th, 2008 at his residence in Agege, Lagos.
