How Seun Osewa founded Nairaland

Who Seun Osewa?

Oluwaseun Temitope Osewa is a Nigeria man, webmaster and the owner of Nairaland.

Seun Ose

He was born on the 17th of July, 1982 in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Seun Osewa had from his childhood developed an immense interest in knowing the technological part of life. He was said to have built the interest since the time he knew the meaning and what the internet is.

In 1998, Oluwaseun Osewa gained admission to the University of Ife(now Obafemi Awolowo University) to study electrical engineering but, his schooling at the University did not see the light of the day. He dropped out of school to pursue his programming mission.

He introduced himself to the internet as an aspiring programmer in 1999, but he became a professional in the field in 2003.

Seun became a professional in 2003, and made an attempt of going into web hosting business but the capital involved made him abandon it. Then, he sought for money and thought of other businesses he can venture into online which he did for close to 2 years.

The idea of which business should he start started ruminating his mind; he thought of starting a site for sending Short Message Service(SMS) and later  implemented it.

The low rate at which people patronised does not satisfy him enough. So, he decided to start a web forum. The web forum was the only business he could start with just little capital. He paid $15 monthly for his Virtual Private Server(VPS).

In 2003,Oluwaseun launched three web forums which are;,forum for higher institutions and mobilenigeria(for IT solutions).

He had about 300 members on the mobilenigeria forum with the assistance of Mr. Yomi Adeboye and Mr John Sagai Adams who helped in posting the link to the forum on their mailing lists.

Due to the low turnout of members on the forum, Seun Osewa noticed the odd state of the forum and thought of how he could maximize people’s participation by adding jokes, romance, relationships, politics, education and religion sections which eventually gave birth to the NAIRALAND we have today.

Monthly, Nairaland has close to 1 billion page views.

Although, no actual networth is on record for the CEO of Nairaland, but due to the monthly page views he receives and advert spaces he sells on the forum, Oluwaseun Temitope Osewa make nothing less than 3 to 4 million monthly.
